It is a simple matter to download a copy of Stuffit Expander using the file transfer features built in to the America Online software. Here how to do it:

1. Log on to America Online.
2. When the Main Menu has finished loading, click on the Computing Channel
3. Click on the Software Center.
4. Click on File Search.
5. In the dialog box that appears, type the words Stuffit Expander.
6. Click on List Matching Files.
7. Select Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 Installer from the list that appears (you may need to scroll down the list a bit if it isn't near the top…).
8. Click on Get File Description.
9. Read the description and click on Download Now when you are ready.
10. A Save As dialog box will appear. (The default save location will most likely be the Download folder inside the America Online folder on the Hard Disk. I prefer saving downloaded files to the Desktop…. The choice is yours.)
11. Select the location where you want to save the file and click on Save.
12. The Stuffit Expander installer file will be downloaded. (Be patient… this may take a while if the traffic load on AOL is heavy.)
13. When the download is completed you will hear a cheery File's Done and see an on screen announcement.
14. Log off America Online.
15. The Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 Installer file should appear on your desktop (or in the Download folder inside the AOL folder on your Hard Disk if that is where you decided to store the file.)
16. Restart your computer while holding down the Shift key (Select Restart from the Special menu) This procedure restarts your computer with the extensions off… recommended practice whenever you install new software!)
17. When the desktop reappears, double-click on the Stuffit Expander Installer icon on the desktop.
18. Click on Continue, Continue, Install and Install in the dialog boxes that appear in sequence.
19. Stuffit Expander will be installed in a folder named Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 Folder on your Hard Disk. (A desktop alias icon will also be installed.)
20. The Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 Folder will open automatically on your desktop when the installation is completed. You will want to study the Read Us First file for complete instructions on using Stuffit Expander.
21. Close the Read Us… File and the Stuffit… Folder by clicking in the close boxes.
22. Restart your computer again (don't hold down the shift key this time!)
23. Stuffit Expander is now installed on your hard disk and ready to use if you encounter a compressed file. Follow the instructions in the Read Me file to use the software.
