Email Safety and Privacy Issues There are some serious safety and privacy issues that we need to consider when using email and other forms of online communication in the school environment. Take some time to explore the following resource sites that have been created for parents and educators by non-profit organizations. Look specifically for information and safety tips related to email and other forms of online communication. Be Web Aware is an excellent Canadian site created by the non-profit Media Awareness Network. http://www.bewebaware.ca/english/ GetNetWise is a similar site developed by the Internet Education Foundation with assistance and support from a wide range of industry and public interest organizations. http://kids.getnetwise.org/safetyguide/ NetSmartz is yet another site developed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. In addition to sections for Kids, Teens, Parents and Law Enforcement, NetSmartz offers a wide range of support materials for Educators.
