The Abacus Real Estate Foreclosures sites provides a home foreclosure listing, information on mortgages and loans (home loan programs, rates and calculators), legal issues including forms and statutes, and advice on buying foreclosed homes.

California Housing Finance Agency. http://www.calhfa.ca.gov/ (25 January 2003).

The CalHFA’s mission is to finance loans to create safe, decent, and affordable rental housing and to assist first-time home buyers in achieving the dream of home ownership. Homeownership program are available to make housing opportunities available to a wide range of eligible first time California buyers through a variety of specialized loan programs and products.

FannieMae. http://www.fanniemae.com (25 January 2003).

FannieMae provides a variety of loans, including home loans. The site provides a lender search, information on mortgages, and a “homepath” (step-by-step help during the process). FannieMae is dedicated to preserving, promoting and expanding housing opportunities.

Federal Citizen Information Center (Housing). http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov (25 January 2003).

The FCIC provides an enormous amount of information for U.S. citizens including that which a home buyer can use. The Housing section includes: 100 questions and answers about buying a new home, a borrower's guide to home loans, help with buying a home (settlement costs and other helpful information), information on financing an energy-efficient home, and a guide to single-family home mortgage insurance.

This website includes loan programs based on different laws for each state. Resources include: the process, credit information, a glossary, and FAQ’s. The Independent Mortgage Guarantee states the user can have a pre-approved mortgage amount before deciding on a home to purchase. A pre-approved mortgage provides the buying power of a cash buyer.

The sites allows users to anonymously compare top performing realtors and real estate agents’ experience and sales commissions. The site provides a service for estimating local real estate in seconds, based on zip codes, and provides a search engine to locate lists of current homes for sale nationwide.

Lending Tree claims to be the only online loan marketplace where lenders compete for you. It lets the user choose from up to four lenders to work with. It includes a Lender Report Card and Loan Resource Center full of information, products, and services.

Metro List Property Search. The Sacramento Bee. http://www.sacbee.com/content/home (25 January 2003).

The Sacramento Bee’s Metro List Property Search is a quick, convenient way to locate area listings. Users can designate area (by region or zip code), price ranges, number of bedrooms, and square footage, to name a few options. Results are arranged by price and in most cases include exterior photographs of the house (some provide interior shots as well). Realator comments and directions to the property are also included.

NACA is a non-profit housing service and community advocacy organization. The site offers free education and individual hosing counseling throughout the home buying process as well as extensive post ownership assistance.

Here you will find helpful hints, checklists and "To-Do" lists for buying a home, as well as links to other sources of information. It includes a special section for first-time homebuyers.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. http://www.hud.gov (25 January 2003).

The HUD website provides information on numerous topics including: buying, selling, renting, home improvements, fair housing, FHA refunds, foreclosures, handbooks and forms, and answers to common questions. A search engine for current homes for sale is included.

Your First House. http://www.yourfirsthouse.com (25 January 2003).

This site provides another “roadmap” outlining the step-by-step process. It includes a mortgage calculator, an explanation of the paperwork required, a glossary, listings, tips for new homeowners, and a quick link to the realtor who sponsors the site.
