This web site is great for the beginning of the year and for new teachers. It gives insight for establishing classroom rules, consequences and rules of civility from George Washington. It gave ideas for bulletin boards and lessons to help reinforce classroom rules.

It has a program which develops citizenship, responsibility and other positive character traits. It carries a line of videos which demonstrate what students are challenged with and shows examples of how they can be dealt with.

This is a fantastic site which provides lessons on teaching positive character traits. The lessons ask questions to inspire the students so they know how to respond using a positive trait and know how to acquire it. It creates an emotional desire to adopt the trait. However, they give you a little bit of the program and then they want you to subscribe to it.

An international association, which wants to build a “community of character.” This is geared more to adult individuals and families who want to practice what they preach. They promote good character and want to establish a non-profit “character council” where they can bring together community organizations and local government agencies. It is a faith-based organization encouraging individuals to implement good characteristics in their life.

Here is an interesting site that contains ideas for school events to bring all students together. There are grants that are offered if you have an idea that you would like to implement in your school, you can download posters and enter a poetry contest. November 13, 2007 is Mix it Up day, where all students are to drop their barriers and befriend someone new at lunch. Lots of ideas for promoting diversity and positive characteristics.
